you just don't feel right

People seek counseling for a variety of reasons, but the most common is to find relief from emotional and relational pain. If I have learned anything in my almost 20 years as a therapist, it is that a lot of the time, unresolved and unhealed trauma is the root of that pain. Trauma impacts every aspect of our lives: our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. It can leave survivors feeling out of balance, disconnected, and overwhelmed.

This is because trauma overwhelms our brains and bodies' natural ability to "reset" and return to balance, which can leave people with dysregulated emotions and symptoms like anxiety, depression, panic, mood swings, obsessive thoughts, difficulties with focus and concentration, and feeling numb or checked out. In addition to our bodies feeling out of balance, they can feel unsatisfied with their quality of life, disconnected from themselves and others, and hopeless that things can be different.

you've tried everything

If you're like most people, you've already tried several methods to improve your well-being on your own. In today's modern world, there are numerous options for seeking help: books, podcasts, online courses, seminars, influencers, and even easily accessible online therapists. While these are great resources for learning, gaining information, and acquiring new tools, they often don't effectively address healing from trauma. This is good news because it means that the issue isn't with you or your efforts – it's simply that these methods aren't the right fit for helping people heal from trauma. To recover from trauma, we need to address it where it resides – in our brain and body. You also need a therapist who specializes in trauma and understands how it impacts our brain, body, self-esteem, and relationships.

I don't need trauma therapy. . .or do I?

Trauma has its roots in the past, but we experience its effects in the present. Once our brain has learned that something is a danger to our or a loved one’s life or well-being, it makes automatic and unconscious changes to try to keep us safe.  Most of the time, these changes are outside our conscious awareness, and we have no idea they are a response to a traumatic event. I often use the metaphor of a hot stove top with my clients. The brain only needs to learn that the stove is hot one time. Once it has “learned” the lesson, it automatically changes to ensure we don’t get burned again. We don’t have to think about it--it just happens. We don’t make the connection that the symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic, obsessive and repetitive thoughts, sleep issues, lack of focus or concentration, irritability, mood swings, chronic pain, or relationship stress are often the result of unhealed trauma stored in our brain and body, and it’s way of trying to keep us from getting hurt again.

things can get better...you can heal

I chose the name "Remedy" for my counseling practice because the term signifies something that cures or alleviates pain to bring something back to its natural state. I use advanced neurological, brain, and body-based treatment methods to effectively ease emotional pain and help restore you to your desired state. This approach taps into your body's natural healing abilities by resetting the nervous system's automatic responses to traumatic memories, enhancing positive emotional states, transforming negative beliefs, and bringing you back to your natural state of well-being. We will work together to understand the root of the problem and focus on healing rather than just coping.

what to expect at your first session

I have all new clients complete paperwork before their first session so I can review it and be free to focus on what is the most important during our first session. My goal is to get you to the healing process as fast as possible. The best way to do that is to start our work together, developing a clear plan to take you from where you are, to where you want to be. During the first session, we will explore what brings you to therapy now, what you are experiencing that is distressing or overwhelming, and what outcomes you want to see for yourself.  This is also the time for you to get to know me better and determine if I am a good fit for you. After our initial appointment, if you do not feel like my approach or style is the right one for you--I am more than happy to make a recommendation that may fit what you are looking for better.
